Vienna, Austria - July 3, 2025 The 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) was held. During the session, the World Eco-Design Organization (WEDO) was officially granted consultative status with UNIDO. This recognition represents the United Nations’ high acknowledgment of WEDO’s professional capabilities and international influence in advancing sustainable industrial development. Other organizations granted consultative status at the same time included the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA), and eight others.
UNIDO confers consultative status on non-governmental and professional organizations with demonstrated capabilities in areas aligned with its mandate. This status facilitates deeper engagement through technical input, policy dialogue, and collaborative initiatives. WEDO’s inclusion reflects its growing capacity to contribute to global industrial sustainability, particularly in fields such as eco-design, green innovation, and international cooperation.
In recent years, WEDO has been dedicated to integrating eco-design into industrial transformation, advocating for design-driven innovation to support industrial upgrading and green development. It places particular emphasis on capacity-building in the least developed countries and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals. With consultative status, WEDO will have greater opportunities to expand international cooperation, participate in global policy discourse, and further advance eco-design as a key driver of sustainable industrial development.
