The construction of the Eco-Design Town began on September 14, 2018. In just 89 days, with zero occupancy of additional construction land, the phrase I construction was completed by applying massive ecological, low carbon, environmental friendly technologies. The abandoned farmers' market has now been transformed to a high-end conference center, which followed by a green and innovative Eco-Design Town.
Front Square of Conference Venue
The background colors of the architecture and landscape are the colors of land and the nature, which are stretched out on the ground. You can find it eye catching and yet without any trace of artificial design. It is considered that the space of the expansive front square needs to be used for multi-purposes and fire flow. The floor was mainly paved with hard top materials, you will find a spacious ecological lawn and see the whole conference venue.
During design, architecture and landscape have been deeply connected. Tile is a major component of Lingnan architecture. Plenty of bamboo and tile elements are used for external surfaces in architectural design, making them integrate with nature, and forming a partly open space inside out.
East and West Atriums
The atriums of both sides forged by integration of gravels, trees, and stones for landscaping can fulfill the needs for a rest and stopover. The modeling pine with appropriate height and size has a good viewing effect and creates a poetic Chinese space. The floor is paved with large pieces of gravels, which improves water infiltration.
The tile element of building elevation is continued to be used for making edges of tree grates. The grates are formed by enclosure of tiles in vertical position, which is a natural and simple finishing touch.
To conform to eco-design, renewable bamboo materials are adopted to forge characteristic folding screens in the Chinese architectures, regardless of standing in the atrium or indoor, you will see open landscape as long as you tilt your head back.
Green and gentle slope was applied to the venue design for rainwater collection and clarification. Vegetation buffer strands are set up to reduce pollution, and indigenous plants are adopted to save water.
The atrium was applied with water permeability of gravel surface to hold the overland runoff and infiltrate into the ground, while also purify and filter the water.
The permeable and colourful mats pavements can also hold and infiltrate water. The structure of its layer is accounted as an aquifer, which can store rainwater in a short time and perform as an initial filter.
The design of the program was started in August 2018. To ensure the hosting of the Wold Eco-Design Conference at the end of 2018, areas along the Eco-Design Avenue was constructed in priority. It only took around 2 months for the program from design to settlement. The design and construction were implemented in parallel, coordinating and unifying concepts and elements with architecture, interior and other tasks, which shown high efficiency and quality.
