The World Eco-Design Conference Invited to Participate in Interactive Dialogue of the United Nations General Assembly on Harmony with Nature

To commemorate the International Mother Earth Day, the General Assembly organized the 11th Interactive Dialogue of on Harmony with Nature on Friday 22 April 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The World Eco-Design Conference participated in the interactive dialogue by the invitation from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).Themed with "Harmony with Nature and Biodiversity: Contributions of Ecological Economics and Earth-centered Law", this Interactive Dialogue emphasized on discussions about the relationship between harmony with nature and the protection of biological diversity. It aims to inspire citizens and societies to reconsider how they interact with the natural world in the context of sustainable development.

In the recent years, the environmental issues have become critical day by day, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres stressed that “Because we have only one Mother Earth. We must do everything we can to protect her.” Meanwhile, he indicated that the Earth is facing a “Triple Planetary Crisis”: Climate disruption, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste. This Triple Crisis is threatening the well-being and survival of millions of people around the world. People shall continue to pay attention to these issues, we must take tangible actions to support Climate Action, and advance the ecosystem restoration while we understand the importance of the harmony among humankind, Earth and nature.

In the Dialogue, the representative from China spoke that since the signing implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) with the joint efforts of the international community, the process of biodiversity conservation in the world has seen steady progress. And international cooperation has been continually furthered. While facing the sever challenges of biodiversity loss, climate change etc., the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) is highly anticipated by the international communities. He hopes that the COP15 will become the key turning point in reversing global for biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation. As one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world, and one of the first batch of countries to become party to the CBD, China has been guided by President Xi Jinping’s vision on ecological civilization incorporated biodiversity conversation as an important part of building ecological civilization and earnestly fulfilled its international obligations with remarkable achievements in biodiversity governance.

For a long time, the World Eco-Design Conference has thoroughly applied President Xi Jinping’s thought on ecological civilization, actively practiced the philosophy of Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets, and complied with the ecological layout of mountains and waters. Unified ecological restorations and micro transformations have been conducted to the permanent venue of the World Eco-Design Conference and its surroundings. Mountains, waters, forests and plants have been restored as a community with a shared future, making an underdeveloped village transform to be a glorious name card of the world eco-design, which provides Guangzhou Solutions for rural revitalization. In the future, the World Eco-Design Conference will continue to take joint efforts with all walks of society to promote diversified human ecology through design, create environmental ecology for sustainability by design, and promote healthy industrial ecology by the power of design. Let us work together to build a beautiful world in harmony with nature!
