In 1922, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) decided to mark the first Saturday of July of every year as the Day of Cooperatives; In 1992, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) officially proclaimed that, on the centenary of the International Cooperative Alliance in 1995, the International Day of Cooperatives would be celebrated on the first Saturday of July, and it was decided to consider to celebrate the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives on that day annually.
On 2 July, 2022, we are celebrating the 100th International Day of Cooperative; On 7 July, 2022, the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC), in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Mongolia to the United Nations, is holding an International Day commemorative event, and the World Eco-Design Conference (WEDC) received an invitation from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) to participate in the commemorative event for the Day.
Ties Between the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and the International Cooperative Alliance
The All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Co-operatives (ACFSMC) is the apex organization for all Supply and Marketing Cooperatives(SMCs) nationwide. ACFSMC has played a major role in ensuring the supplies of agricultural means of production, activating circulation of farm produce, promoting industrial management of agriculture. In 1985, by representing the China’s cooperatives, ACFSMC has officially become a member of the ICA, gets access to the affairs of the Alliance and associated international organizations for the China’s cooperatives, and has a major influence on the Alliance.
Customization of Agriculture, Lychee Production and Marketin
In December 2019, Guangzhou claimed the title of “Capital of Customization”, which was jointly awarded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the WEDC. The “Capital of Customization” refers to the cities where have made significant development or achievements in customization for products and services. By the chance of establishing the global “Capital of Customization”, Guangzhou has started to develop customized agriculture services, and this is the “Customization 2.0” following industrial customization such as home, jewellery, vehicle etc. The Conghua District of Guangzhou has centered on the integration of primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, developing new industries, e.g. custom agriculture, live stream selling agricultural products, leisure agriculture etc. The District has innovated a customized agricultural model represented by Lychee customization, and established an online “Farmer-Consumer” direct supply chain, promoting the quality and production of agricultural products. The “One Village One Product” Innovative Design Program of the World Eco-Design Conference empowers the development mode of custom agriculture, supporting agricultural products on progress towards scale-up, modernization, greening, high quality, and branding.
In June this year, The 2022 Conghua Lychee “12221” marketing campaign led by the Guangzhou Supply and Marketing Cooperation General Office, and co-hosted by the Conghua District Supply and Marketing Cooperative and the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Conghua District was officially launched in the Conghua District integrated service platform for farmers. The theme of the campaign is the supply and marketing of “Lychee”, by the collaboration with farmers to promote the sale of lychee by measures, such as offline sale by farmers, online lychee customization etc., which has made contributions to the quality development for the lychee industry and production and income of lychee farmers, and brought concrete social and economic benefits for the local community.
