On September 2, the launching ceremony of the #UNIDOGlobalCall 2022 hosted by UNIDO ITPO Shanghai was officially released at the 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and International AI City Forum.

 

The launching ceremony of this year's UNIDO Global Call was successfully held during 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference - International AI City Forum. With the theme of "AI Empowers Digital Meta-City Construction", this forum aims to combine the construction of people's cities, gather global scientific and technological wisdom, and fully demonstrate the new highlights, new trends, new models and new achievements of urban digital transformation.

 

H.E. Mr.Xie Zhenhua, China's special envoy for climate change sent the video remark to congratulate the launch of UNIDO Global Call 2022. He said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, and the launch of this very timely global call has showcased UNIDO’s determination and efforts to cope with global climate change, promote green recovery of the post-pandemic economy, and accelerate the realization of sustainable development.

 

Mr. Zou Ciyong, Managing Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, delivered an opening speech for the launching ceremony. He pointed out, As part of the UN-wide AI initiative, on the occasion of the International Urban Forum on Artificial Intelligence, UNIDO Global Call 2022 was officially launched. UNIDO Global Call 2022 is initiated by UNIDO ITPO Shanghai, in close collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The aim is to identify “green technology and solutions towards Net-Zero”. Its objective is to identify readily applicable and scalable solutions for green technology promotion. With its immersive nature and together with green technologies, AI will be infiltrated to transition from smart-city to meta-city.

 

Ms. Zhao Xiaolei, Head of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai Office, introduced the UNIDO Global Call 2022 and invited the participating leaders, Zou Ciyong, Managing Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Huang Zhen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean of the Carbon Neutral Development Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Huang Feng, President of the Shanghai Foreign Investment Association and former Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Department of the Ministry of Commerce, Dean of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University-United Nations Industrial Development Green Growth Joint Research Institute, Geng Yong, Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Deputy Dean of the School of International and Public Affairs, Odie Elijah, Chairman of the African Academic Doctorate Organization, Honorary President of Pudong Foreign Investment Association, former Deputy Director of Pudong Business Committee, Director of Pudong Investment Promotion Office Sun Yongqiang, Ma Jun, Chief Product Officer of Shanghai Aipex Technology Co., Ltd., Qian Tingzhi, President and Founding Partner of Shanghai Jingxu Venture Capital Co., Ltd., and Cai Jiong, Partner of Zhidi Capital, took the stage to jointly announce the launch of the event and kick off the Global Call 2022 event prelude.

 

At the conference, the UNIDO global call 2022 partners were also awarded, including the UNIDO global call 2022 strategic partner of the United Nations Development Programme Office in China, the UNIDO global call 2022 strategic partner of the Shanghai Association of foreign investment, the UNIDO global call 2022 industrial partner of Ants Plan, and the UNIDO global call 2022 innovative partner of MS energy and Yoi information technology.

 

UNIDO Global Call will be held in China for the first time with theme “green technology and solutions towards Net-Zero”, continue the inclusive and sustainable concept advocated when it was held in Italy in 2020 and Germany in 2021, and it will open to private sector entities (micro, small, medium, and large companies as well as startups) and identify readily applicable and scalable green technology and solutions. 

 

The Call is open to private sector entities (micro, small, medium, and large companies as well as startups) in the below four categories:

 

1. Green Growth: Solutions for building resilient green manufacture cycle

Efficient and clean utilization of fossil energy/clean energy/energy storage and carbon neutrality application by digital technology

 

2. Advanced Digital Production: Advanced digital solutions for net-zero infrastructures and facilities

Promoting industrial design and manufacturing efficiency solutions embedded with digital technology, solutions to optimize the green-energy assets with digital technology, digital technology application to empower regional emergency governance

 

3. Agriculture & Food: Solutions for greenhouse gas emissions reduction and efficiency increase in agriculture & food

Green recycling of agricultural by-products and waste, greenhouse gas emission reduction solution, solution for green food transportation and distribution, green food packaging solutions, innovative green organic food

 

4. Medical & Health: Solutions for sustainable management of medical and bio waste

Innovative solutions to set up the feasible and efficient way to reach the sustainable management of medical and bio waste
