On October 8, the Department of Industrial Policy and Laws of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released a list of the first batch of national research institutes of industrial design. As 1 of the 5 finalists on the list, the Guangdong Research Institute of Eco-Industrial Design located in Conghua District, is the only chosen institute based in Guangdong Province.

According to the “Working Guide to Establish National Research Institutes of Industrial Design” (Reference No.: MIIT Industry (2018) No.123), a proposed list of the first batch of national research institutes of industrial design is to be released. Supervision from all circles of the society is welcomed, if you dissent, please write to the Department of Industrial Policy and Laws (Department of Integrated Development of Industry) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology within the publicity period.

The Research Institute of Eco-Industrial Design in Conghua is the first national leveled institute in the Greater Bay Area, it will assist Conghua District to play a more initiative role in the sustainable development in the ecological Bay Area.
 

Relying on the Eco-Design Town in Conghua, being served by the Engineering Research Center of Computer Aided Product Innovation Design of the Ministry of Education, Research Institute of Eco-Design Industry of the China Industrial Design Association as the common technological research platforms, the World Eco-Design Conference and International Eco-Design Promotion Center as the international cooperation platforms, Wanqu Open University of Design as a talent training platform, Guangdong Research Institute of Eco-Industrial Design integrates with the development trends of emerging industries and sustainable development goal of ecology, emphasizes on the layout of intelligent equipment, new energy, new materials, cultural and creative technologies and other areas, gives full play to the power of design think tanks, addresses efforts to make breakthroughs on key issues of the sustainability of current trends of industrial development and transformation, provides industrial services of design, innovation, and upgrade etc. for industrial enterprises of Guangdong Province and even the nationwide.
 

The President of Guangdong Research Institute of Eco-Industrial Design is Mr. Ying Fangtian, he is also the Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Industrial Design Association, professor and doctoral supervisor of Zhejiang University. The Chief Scientist of the Research Institute is Mr. Chen Chun, he is the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The Research Institute has been set up with a foundation for design innovation size at RMB200 million for the initial, coupled with the Research Institute in operation, to achieve the result of an inter supporting of public welfare mechanism and market mechanism.

Previously, the Guangdong Research Institute of Eco-Industrial Design run by Guangzhou Landcapital Eco-Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., has been granted one of the first batch of provincial leveled research institutes of industrial design of Guangdong Province. The Research Institute will rely on the Eco-Design Town, accelerate research on common technologies, establishment of industrial cluster, talent aggregation and industrial inclusiveness and sharing, establish the World Eco-Design Sourcing Center, provide assistance to the strategies of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and make a due contribution to the harmonious and sustainable development for the economic society. 

As reported, Guangdong will focus on strategic emerging industries, advanced manufacturing, traditionally competitive industries and other associated industries, firstly foster and build 5-7 provincial research institutes of industrial design with competitiveness, hereinto, 1-2 institutes to be upgraded to national level through the accreditation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, to enhance the public service capacity of industrial design at all round, set up a primary, basic support system.

It is noteworthy that since the founding of the Eco-Design Town in November 2018, over 70 medium and large scaled of international events, such as conferences, exhibitions etc., have been successfully organized in the Town, e.g. the First World Eco-Design Conference, Nanbo Summit Forum on Rural Revitalization of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the 4th National Conference of Homestay Inn, Conference of Rural Revitalization in Conghua District, Seminar of Space Spirit and Rural Revitalization, Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains Summit Forum, 2019RoboRAVE International etc., the Town has gained extensive attention from home and abroad.
