Concept car with fascinating look and sense of technology and design, crystal-clear and self-luminous transparent OLED display, unmanned intelligent robot capable of independently making ice cream… all you can find at the 10th “Governor Cup” Industrial Design Competition finals kicked off on August 19th in Eco-Design Town ,Conghua district of Guangzhou.

Among the nearly 34000 entries collected from home and abroad, 797 of them stood out and entered the finals after fierce competing. They will be collectively exhibited and reviewed in Eco-Design Town, competing for the awards.

Governor Cup Settles Down

Guangdong “Governor Cup” Industrial Design Competition is one of the earliest and most influential industrial design competitions in the country, and it is also the first industrial design competition named after the chief of the government. After 20 years of development, “Governor Cup” has become an important handgrip for Guangdong Province to set up design benchmark, discover design talents and promote design philosophy.

On August 19th, the finals of the 10th “Governor Cup” Industrial Design Competition held every two years came into the judging. 35 experts of the jury conducted heated discussions and rigorous evaluations over all the outstanding industrial design works.
 

“In general, entries of the “Governor Cup” for this year has increased in number and significantly improved in their quality, and the composition of competition is closely related to the industry development in Guangdong Province.” Suggested Hu Fei, executive dean of School of Art and Design of Guangdong University of Technology as well as Director of the Jury.
 

According to the sponsors, the entries were divided into three groups: product design, concept design and industry design. After the intense competing in preliminary and semi-finals, a total of 797 works reached the finals. After the voting and rating by 5 panels of experts, there are respectively 72, 72 and 27 works from each group qualified for the closed-door oral defence on 24th this month.
 

Additionally, 35 experts of the jury on the 19th will also vote for 10 winners for the Most Innovative Award, Best-selling Product Award , Most Commercial Potential-Carried Award, and Green Design Award respectively from 797 entries in the finals.
 

Chinese Academy of Engineering, design masters and design organizations to create a design embassy circle here, and signed more than 500 designers to jointly establish a global wall-less studio, providing strong intellectual resources and talents for the Town’s development. "We build an ecology of design for innovation and entrepreneurship from brand, talent, finance, and platform, where outstanding design talents can find financial support and a platform to realize their dreams." Ying Fangtian, President of the Organizing Committee of the World Eco-Design Conference said.
 

Among them, Guangzhou Workstation of Experts and Academicians has gathered a core team consists of full-time and part-time staff including teachers with high-level research ability from domestic and foreign universities, being led by academicians.
 

Chen Chun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, also a specialist in international computer application, is responsible for the overall scientific research of the Workstation. He is also the current director of Block-chain Research Center at Zhejiang University, Chief Scientist of China Jet Printing Engineering Research Center, and a member of the Discipline Appraisal Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. He has long engaged in frontier research work in computer application, with accomplishments of nearly 200 papers published in renown international academic journals and conferences, 3 published books, and more than 60 authorized invention patents.
 

Last December, the Eco-Design Town was honored with another title. In the "Notice on Announcement of the Candidate List of the First National Industrial Design and Research Institutes Training" issued by the General Office of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Guangdong Eco-Industrial Design and Research Institute built with the Eco-Design Town was designated as the first cultivation object of National Industrial Design and Research Institute.
 

The Research Institute established the first phase of an RMB$ 200 million design innovation funds, and is integrating more than 50 well-known industrial design institutions and more than 30 leading design talents. By empowering industry with design, it is estimated that more than 100 leading modern industrial design talents to be trained, more than 10 innovation and entrepreneurship enterprises to be set up every year, providing design support for about 100 enterprises in Guangdong.

Eco-Design Town Platform propels development by setting up platform, empowers industry with design, revitalizes skilled personnel, and revitalizes on the leading of industry. The Eco-Design Town located in a place blessed with lucid water and lush mountains is gradually developing itself into a global ecological source center, “Chinese Capital of Eco-Design”, and a hub for eco-design, innovation and entrepreneurship in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
