The Second World Eco-Design Conference was held at 6th in Guangzhou. In the conference, United Nations Industrial Development Organization released the first case cities of City of Customization. Guangzhou, China and Siem Reap, Cambodia were selected as City of Customization.

 

City of Customization refers to the international cities which knows how to use ecological thinking to explore new path for ecological, smart and sustainable upgrade. The evaluation criteria of City of Customization includes: business model supported by customization and creative environment, number and scale of customized enterprises and research center etc.
 

In recent years, Guangzhou has developed large-scale customization industry and promote industrial enterprises to transform from “large-scale production with enterprise as the center” to “large-scale customization with user as the center”, so that they can provide customers with customized products and services tailored to their needs.
 

For example, in terms of automotive customization, Guangzhou is the important export base of automobile and parts in the world. Automobile enterprises have forged “intelligent factory” by opening the system of equipment, production and operation and lowing energy and resource consumption. For example, some automobile enterprises have built interactive customization factory and personalized customization APP so that the consumer can be involved in different links like design and production. Production data will be synchronized to the mobile APP terminal of the ordering user, realizing remote visualization of production.
 

While in the aspect of consumer goods, enterprises have built the multi-participation “cloud manufacturing” platform to integrate consumers, designers and intelligent factory and increase the utilization of element resource. There are some enterprises providing cost-effective suit customization service. By means of 3D trying on suit, the enterprise has broken through the key links of measurement and pattern making which hasn’t been finished in a large scale. So the customized product can be delivered in three to seven days. Moreover, enterprises can use 3D technology to print customized shoes.
 

It is reported that in the next phase, Guangzhou will focus on the major tasks such as building large-scale customization pilot industrial cluster and demonstration enterprise and energizing of industrial internet, so as to forge demonstration base and industrial cluster of large-scale customization industrial application.
