World Eco-Design Conference Invited to Attend the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5)

The 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) has been successfully held during 5 to 9 March 2023 in Doha, Qatar. The Conference is a once-in-a-decade event, heads of states and governments, ministers, parliamentarians and representatives from192 members states of the UN, as well as experts, scholars, and representatives from non-governmental organizations have attended the event, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Malawi, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera etc. They put forward new ideas and mobilize new supports and commitments through the Doha Program of Action, and accelerate the implementations of commitments upon negotiations, and tap full potential of the least developed countries (LDCs), helping them make progress on the road to prosperity.
 
The World Eco-Design Conferenc (WEDC) was invited to participate in the LDC5, a meeting titled “International Design Education and Digital Culture Industry” and a thematic exhibition were also organized during the LDC5. WEDC has carried out exchanges with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Technology Bank respectively on the establishment of the General Collabration in International Design Education (GCIDE), the construction of Digital Art Technology Repository and the preparation for the Third World Eco-Design Conference (WEDC2023).
 
Wang Qiurui, Vice Secretary-General of WEDC attend the UN Technology Bank Delivering on the Doha Programme of Action: Innovative Partnerships for Technology Transfer and STI Capacity Development Side Event, and joined the discussion. She shared examples of how digital design enpowered education and industrial development in the LDCs. She said digital technology is born with inclusiveness, publicity, interactivity, and compatibility etc. We need to treasure the innovation power of gender equality, and we need a safer, diverse and beautiful world.
 
As the only non-governmental organization in consultative status with the UN in the Chinese design industry, WEDC has been an active practitioner of the national strategy of the Belt and Road Initiatives and the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. WEDC aims to boost the prosperity of ecological culture by design, promote inclusive culture and consensus for ecological civilization on a global scale, joining hands to share development opportunities, cope with common challenges, and make joint efforts to build a beautiful eco-friendly homeland; To facilitate the construction of environmental ecology by design, improve the harmony among human, machine and environment, call for green low-carbon designs, and explore effective ways for living in harmony with nature; To promote the ecology of innovation industry by design, drive economic transformation and upgrade, construct an innovative platform, trigger the vitality of industry, and jointly promote a healthy and sustainable development for the world’s economy.
