The 2025 International Conference on Sustainable Regeneration and Resilience Governance was successfully convened in Wuhan

On December 13, 2025, the International Conference on Sustainable Regeneration and Resilience Governance (ICSRRG 2025) was successfully convened in Wuhan Technology and Business University. The conference was held under the guidance of the World Eco-Design Organization (WEDO, UN Special Consultative Status NGO) and jointly organized by the National Eco-Industrial Design Institute (EIDI) and Wuhan Technology and Business University. The conference brought together ten renowned experts and scholars from China, Germany, Spain, South Korea, and other countries and regions. Focusing on frontier topics such as eco-design, resilient cities, and sustainable urban renewal, participants shared the latest research findings and practical experiences.
 

Scholars, industry professionals, and faculty members and students from more than 40 universities and research institutions, including Politecnico di Milano, Macau University of Science and Technology, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Minzu University of China, and Shenzhen University, gathered to explore how to build future cities that balance safety and resilience, green and low-carbon development, and human-centered values. The conference aimed to promote the transformation of Eco-design from theory into practice and to contribute universally applicable insights and solutions to global sustainable development.

Mr. Zhan Heyan delivered a welcome speech.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Liu Chun, Assistant to the President of Wuhan Technology and Business University. The academic lecture sessions were chaired successively by Xu Kaiqiang, Dean of the School of Art and Design at Wuhan Technology and Business University; Wang Haiwen, Executive Dean; and He Xuan, Associate Dean. Zhan Heyan, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Wuhan Technology and Business University, delivered the welcome address. He expressed his hope that the conference would serve as an opportunity to deepen pragmatic cooperation with various sectors in Eco-design education, scientific research transformation, and international exchange, fully leveraging disciplinary strengths, talent resources, and institutional platforms to contribute wisdom of higher education to global sustainable development.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. Ying Fangtian

Ying Fangtian, Professor at Zhejiang University, Fellow of European Academy of Engineering, Director General of World Eco-Design Organization, and Dean of the National Eco-Industrial Design Institute (EIDI), delivered a keynote speech. From the perspectives of paradigm shift, value reconstruction, and regenerative futures, he systematically elaborated on the connotations and evolution of Eco-design. He emphasized that Eco-design is not merely a design trend, but a fundamental challenge to existing design philosophies, methodologies, and practices, as well as a strategic engine for coordinated economic, social, and environmental development.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. Liu Wujun

Prof. Liu Wujun, Former Chief Engineer of Construction Headquarters of Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transport Project and Adjunct Professor of Tsinghua University and Tongji University, provided an in-depth analysis of the multifunctional role of large-scale transportation hubs in modern cities, focusing on Wuhan’s development context. He pointed out that Wuhan should fully leverage major transportation infrastructures such as airports and high-speed railway stations as strategic pivots to drive urban spatial restructuring, promote high-end industrial agglomeration, and enhance urban operational efficiency and resilience.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. Andreas Papenfuss

Andreas Papenfuss, Professor at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Germany and Founder of Papenfuss Development Industrial Design Company and DDG Company, shared comprehensive strategies and practical approaches to system-oriented design of micromobility products, centered on the concepts of ecological quality and quality-driven economics.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. Guan Zhengneng

Pro.f Guan Zhengneng, former Vice President of Shih Chien University and President of the Taiwan Industrial Design Association, drew on his extensive experience in design education and industrial practice. Through a range of representative case studies, he systematically explained the manifestation and differentiation of design capability in product design and real-world application.
 
Keynote Speech by Dr. Juan Manuel Cano Sanchiz

Dr. Juan Manuel Cano Sanchiz, Researcher at the Institute for Cultural Heritage, University of Science and Technology Beijing, and PhD graduate of the Universidad de Córdoba Spain, analyzed the sustainability challenges faced by industrial heritage conservation in the context of contemporary social development and proposed practical response strategies and development pathways.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. CHUN HYUNJIN

CHUN HYUNJIN, Professor at School of Art, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and President of the Asian Cultural Landscape Association (ACLA), provided an in-depth analysis of sustainable design strategies and implementation pathways, drawing on the case study of the Seoul Linear Park.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. Rao Jian

Prof. Rao Jian, Dean and Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Art and Design at Hubei University of Technology, explored pathways for artistic practice in the context of AI from a forward-looking perspective integrating art and technology, and outlined a future development vision driven by digital and intelligent technologies.
 
Keynote Speech by General Manager Liu Xun

Liu Xun, General Manager of the Landscape and Ecological Environment Center of Central South Architectural Design Institute (CSADI), systematically shared methodologies for urban renewal planning and collaborative implementation experiences based on real-world project cases.
 
Keynote Speech by Prof. Liao Qipeng
 
Liao Qipeng, Professor at China University of Geosciences Wuhan presented a comprehensive discussion of the internal logic, key mechanisms, and practical implementation pathways of sustainable urban renewal, integrating both theoretical and practical perspectives.
 
Keynote Speech by Mrs. Zhang Yan

Zhang Yan, Deputy Director of the Institute of New Energy and Energy Storage Technology at Wuhan Technology and Business University, vividly demonstrated innovative application models of university–enterprise collaborative energy storage technologies in household micro-ecological scenarios through concrete research outcomes and application cases.
 
Concluding Remarks by Pro.f Xu Kaiqiang

At the closing ceremony, Xu Kaiqiang, Dean of the School of Art and Design at Wuhan Technology and Business University, delivered the concluding remarks. He noted that through in-depth interdisciplinary and cross-regional dialogue, the conference contributed significant academic insights to the field of sustainable renewal and resilient governance. He emphasized that Eco-design, as a vital pathway for addressing contemporary challenges, is fundamentally grounded in systems thinking and a strong sense of responsibility—core values that design education should consistently uphold and convey.
 

 
Event Highlights
 
The conference featured a paper poster exhibition and four sub-forums for paper presentation, where scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on related topics. In addition, awards for Outstanding Paper and Excellent Organizational Unit were presented to recognize excellent individuals and institutions. The conference aims to foster a more open academic community and to collaboratively advance the role of design disciplines in empowering urban renewal and promoting resilient development, thereby generating broader educational impact and social value.
