Plum Charm at Zhongshan · Environmental Symbiosis in Ecological Changes — The 6th Designers’ Art Exhibition Opens at the Ming Xiaoling Museum
Release date : February 13, 2026

As the Spring Festival ushers in the blooming season of plum blossoms in Nanjing, Plum Charm at Zhongshan · Environmental Symbiosis in Ecological Changes — The 6th Designers’ Art Exhibition has officially opened at the Ming Xiaoling Museum.

Within the Chinese cultural context, the plum blossom has long transcended its botanical identity to become a spiritual symbol embodying Eastern philosophy. Its resilience in winter’s cold, its cyclical rhythm of withering and renewal, and its dual appeal to both refined and popular aesthetics correspond respectively to Confucian wisdom in conduct, Daoist views of nature, and Buddhist insight into life. These qualities also resonate closely with the contemporary ecological philosophy advocating harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

In this exhibition, the philosophical essence of the plum blossom serves not only as a point of cultural origin, but also as the intellectual foundation for ecological expression under the theme of environmental symbiosis amid ecological changes.

As Nanjing’s city flower, the plum blossom holds a distinctive place in the city’s cultural identity. The Nanjing Plum Blossom Festival, inaugurated in 1996 at the foot of Plum Blossom Hill, has become a hallmark spring event where urban culture and natural landscape converge. Over more than two decades, the festival has carried forward Nanjing’s profound plum-blossom heritage. Beyond offering a visual spectacle, it provides a living interpretation of plum-blossom philosophy, enabling citizens and visitors alike to move from aesthetic appreciation toward deeper intellectual and cultural engagement, and serving as an important platform for the dissemination of plum culture and its philosophical meanings.
