In February last year, a satellite survey published by NASA showed that the earth has gradually turned green over the past 20 years, and this achievement was mainly contributed by China and India, two of the world's most populous countries. As far as China is concerned, it has accounted for 25% of the world's 5% conversion rate. Today, we gathered here in Conghua, the renowned "Backyard of Guangzhou", to discover what kind of green power of ecology brought this ordinary village in the old days back to life.
To most of our old friends, the World Eco-Design Conference could act as an important platform for them to truly and initially understand this small town called Conghua. All the imagination and representation of ecology, green and low carbon start here as well.
The sound of the world's ecological design is ringing in Conghua
The World Eco-Design Conference is a conference focused on the development of the ecological design industry around the globe. This Conference is sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and was co-curated by China Industrial Design Association and other design organizations, institutions, enterprises and universities in more than 30 countries and regions.
It is an international platform for high-level exchanges and discussions, with the aim of accelerating the sustainable development of design and ecology, and their integrations with society, making a contribution to the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations.
In December 2018, the first World Eco-Design Conference kicked off in the town of ecological design, Conghua, which was designated as the permanent site for holding this Conference. The fact that the Conference issued the Conghua Initiative for the Development of the World Ecological Design Industry has attracted global attention. It was a global initiative issued from the ecological core of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and as well as the "Conghua Voice" for ecological progress in this regard.
Last year, the Second World Eco-Design Conference attracted representatives of design organizations, institutions and enterprises from more than 30 countries around the world, and about 12,000 people visited the Customization Industry Exhibition. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization has released the First Case Cities of “Capital of Customization”, and Guangzhou won this honorable awards.
Based on the First World Eco-Design Conference, the Eco-Design Town has always been to build the Global Eco-Design Center and China Customization Capital of Eco-Design, so as to promoting humankind and nature to live in harmony, with deepening interconnection and interdependence.
Idle agricultural trade market transformed into Guangzhou North International Conference Center
As early as September 2018, it was just an idle agricultural trade market in the eyes of the public. No one had ever thought that it would become a high-end atmospheric conference center in three months, followed by the rise of a green, innovative, low-carbon eco-design town, which refreshes Conghua’s reputation on a global scale.
In 2018, in order to greet the arrival of the First World Eco-Design conference, the Eco-Design Town completed the first phase of the project in 89 days. In the process of construction, the small town abandoned the practice of large-scale demolition and construction, turned to use the original idle agricultural trade market, and reconstructed with ecological low-carbon environmental protection technologies, without increasing the scale of construction land.
Behind the gorgeous conversion is the insistence of green carbon idea, which make idle and inefficient rural property reborn.
Attracting 76 low-carbon design enterprises
Thanks to the rapid promotion of the beautiful ecological environment and "ecology industrialized and industry ecological", 76 ecological low-carbon enterprises from all over the world have been settled down in Eco-Design Town.
Among them, the integrated circuit and digital art industry project has been officially put into production in May 2019. More than 50 enterprises have joined the project, starting to form the first ecological design industry cluster.
Eco-Industrial Design Institute of Guangdong Province has become the national cultivation target
Rely on the Eco-Design Town, the Eco-Industrial Design Institute of Guangdong Province was approved to become one of the cultivation targets of the first national industrial design institutes, and one of the three provincial industrial design institutes that first established in Guangdong Province in August 2019. It is the only one in Guangzhou at present, adding another gilded signboard to the Eco-Design Town.
The president of Eco-Industrial Design Institute of Guangdong Province is Mr. Ying Fangtian, Vice President & Secretary General of China Industrial Design Association, Professor/PhD Supervisor of Zhejiang University, and the chief scientist of Eco-Industrial Design Institute of Guangdong Province is Mr. Chen Chun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
